Officers from the Yorktown Police Department were dispatched to Hunterbrook Road at approximately 3:30 a.m. on July 1, where there was a report of a crash that left damage to a nearby property.
Upon arrival at the scene, investigators found an unoccupied 2003 Volkswagen that had collided with an earth embankment. Further investigation and a computer check of the vehicle’s registration determined that the alleged operator of the vehicle, Yorktown resident Matthew Williams, had a suspended license.
Later that morning, at approximately 7:30 a.m. the investigating officer arrested Williams outside his Carr Court home, where he was charged with a misdemeanor count of third-degree unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and cited for failure to maintain his lane and leaving the scene of an auto accident with property damage, violations.
Following his processing for the charges, Williams was released on his own recognizance and is due back in Yorktown Justice Court on Aug. 2.
